The Margin: National Doughnut Day: Dunkin’ and Krispy Kreme are dishing freebies


You dough not want to miss out on these frosted freebies.

It’s National Doughnut Day (or Donut Day, if you prefer, although the longer spelling is more grammatically correct), and chains such as Dunkin’ and Krispy Kreme

are dishing discounts and samples to mark the occasion.

Check your local cafe or pastry shop for deals on Friday — if you’re still lucky enough to have a neighborhood doughnut shop, that is. MarketWatch’s Fast Foodist is mourning the demise of the neighborhood doughnut shop known for rolling out fresh doughnuts each morning for just a dollar or two.

Get a free doughnut with any beverage purchase at Dunkin’ on Friday, while supplies last.

Krispy Kreme 

Krispy Kreme is also handing out one free doughnut per guest on Friday — and shoppers can also score a dozen glazed for just $1 when buying another dozen doughnuts or 16 minis. And come back next week (on Friday, June 10) to try their new mystery glaze doughnut on the house. 

7-Eleven, Speedway and Stripes 

The three convenience store franchises owned by 7-Eleven Inc. are marking National Doughnut Day with a BOGO (buy one, get one free) doughnut deal through Sunday, June 5. 

Tim Horton’s

You can also bag a doughnut from Canadian coffee chain Tim Horton’s through Sunday, June 5, and get one free. The catch: you must be a Tim Rewards member, and order a doughnut in the Tim’s app or online to unlock the freebie. 

Duck Donuts 

Enjoy a free cinnamon sugar doughnut from any Duck Donuts location on Friday. 

Voodoo Doughnut 

Here’s a treat for fans of “The Simpsons” — Voodoo Doughnut is offering pink frosted “Homer” doughnuts in honor of die-hard doughnut lover Homer Simpson for just $1 on Friday. The catch: These are available only in-store at the Washington, Oregon, Colorado and Texas shops.
