The Margin: Biden to appear on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ on Wednesday, his first in-person late night appearance as president

U.S. President Joe Biden will make his late-night debut as POTUS on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” on Wednesday.

Biden appeared virtually on NBC’s “The Tonight Show” in December 2021, but Kimmel will be his first in-person appearance on a late night TV talk show since being elected in 2020.

The ABC host tweeted the news from his official Twitter account on Monday, leading “Kimmel” to trend throughout the morning. “Our very elected President @JoeBiden visits @JimmyKimmelLive Wednesday night,” Kimmel tweeted. “No malarkey.”

Biden will be traveling to Los Angeles on Wednesday to participate in the Summit of the Americas, a gathering of world leaders from the Caribbean and North, Central and South America, to discuss  “Building a Sustainable, Resilient, and Equitable Future” for the hemisphere. And while the president is in town, he will tape his episode of Kimmel’s show in Hollywood.

Biden is no stranger to talk shows. He appeared on Kimmel rival “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” on NBC, which tapes in New York City, multiple times before his inauguration.

The news comes as Biden is set to be meeting Tuesday morning with Democratic Sen. Chris Murphy of Connecticut to “discuss ongoing negotiations in the Senate on gun reform.” On Tuesday Uvalde native and actor Matthew McConaughey joined the White House press room to say that responsible gun owners are ‘fed up’ with abuse of Second Amendment
