SEC aims to amend ESG rules

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission wants to amend rules and reporting related to ESG, which would impact financial professionals, funds and investors. ESG, short for environmental, social and governance, is an increasingly hot area for investors and the SEC’s proposed changes aim to promote consistent, comparable and reliable information for investors concerning funds and advisers’ incorporation of ESG factors. Gary Gensler, SEC chair, said the proposal, if adopted, would establish disclosure requirements for funds and advisers that market themselves as having an ESG focus.
